Back in early January, Team OUYA and Kill Screen officially started the running for their first-ever 'CREATE' contest. In a nutshell, the competition tasked up-and-coming indie developers to piece together a game for the OUYA in just over a week.

Specifically, aspiring gamemakers had 10 days to submit a playable prototype for the contest, with $45,000 at stake in total prizes for the winners of the "game jam" session.

Now that the panel has voted, here are the winners of the 'CREATE' 2013 contest, as selected by the likes of Phil Fish (Fez), The Guild's Felicia Day and Austin Wintory (composer of Journey):

• CREATE Grand Prize: Strange Happenings on Murder Island (FreeLives)
• "Most Surprising" Award: Television (Laboratory Games LLC)
• "Four Bright Buttons and Two Joysticks" Award: Bombball (E McNeill)
• "Most Immersive" Award: Whispering Willows (Night Light Interactive)
• "Pop Your Eyes Out" Award: Pipnis (Santa Ragione)
• "Best Couch with Friends" Award: 2D Cube Zombie Platformer (Molinware)
• Best Game Created Using the Unity Engine: Stikbold (Team Stikbold)

Although some of the entries may not have the most bombastic names possible, they all look like interesting additions to the OUYA library, which is now reportedly set to host a whopping 500 games at launch.

Developer team FreeLives will walk away with $20,000 in winnings, while everyone else in the other categories pockets $5000 each for their teams' contributions.

Many eyes will be on the OUYA once it launches, as the success of the console could most likely inspire annual CREATE contests sessions. If the Tegra 3-powered Android system flies off the shelves, that seems like the right move, as Team OUYA wants to release a new console build every year.
