According to the Newzoo Mobile Gaming Data report, there are approximately 100.6 million mobile gamers ages 10 to 65 in the United States. Those gamers are split pretty evenly with 52 percent male. Of those 100.6 million gamers, 36.7 million are paying to play games via paid downloads or microtransactions. The percent of revenue free-to-play gamers on Apple devices are contributing to the coffers is 79 percent, while Android gamers contribute 89 percent.
Sixty one percent of those paying gamers are male. The most popular genres amongst paying mobile gamers are arcade (11.3 million), strategy (10.8 million) and puzzle (10.5 million) games.
One quarter of paying mobile gamers are playing on tablets. And AT&T is the number one network for paying mobile gamers.
The report also took a look at other countries. The United Kingdom has 23.9 million mobile gamers of which 54 percent are male. There are 9.2 million gamers paying to play games with 59 percent of those gamers being male. Arcade (2.5 million), puzzle (2.4 million) and racing (2.3 million) games are the most popular genres for paying players. Twenty-three percent of paying UK gamers are playing on tablets.
Germany is the next largest mobile gaming country with 23.5 million mobile gamers, 56 percent of which are male. But only 7.8 percent of them are paying to play mobile games with males making up 62 percent. Strategy (1.9 million), racing (1.8 million) and action (1.5 million) games are the most popular genres for paying mobile gamers. And 24 percent of them are playing on tablets.
France rounds out the top mobile gaming countries with 14.3 million mobile gamers, 56 percent of which are male. A small 3.5 percent of these gamers are paying to play mobile games. Males make up 63 percent of this audience. Arcade (.79), racing (.76) and strategy (.75) are the most popular genres for paying mobile gamers. One-fifth of paying mobile gamers are playing on tablets.
